Whether you are an individual or a company suffering financial distress, or a creditor seeking to secure your finances, our knowledgeable professionals know the ropes well in this area of law and will provide top quality legal advice and representation in litigation. For those in financial distress, we will assess your situation thoroughly, explain the available options and offer advice on your optimal course of action. We will assist in negotiations with creditors, the drafting of financial restructuring proposals and ensure that you understand your rights and duties with regard to your creditors.
If you are a creditor yourself, we will determine how valid your securities are over the insolvent entity and assess your standing among the other possible creditors. We will assist in tracking and valuing your debtor’s assets and recommend the best means of ensuring full recovery of your finances.
Should informal attempts at settlement be unsuccessful, we will guide you in instituting insolvency proceedings and robustly defend your rights in a court of law, as creditor or insolvent debtor.

David Burrows
ATTORNEY
David is the firms Founder. His early legal experience was at a well-known, international law firm before joining a leading corporate finance and business advisory company where he dealt with JSE listed companies regularly. David specialises in corporate and commercial law with exposure to business rescue and property law.

Julia (Zhang) Le Roux
ATTORNEY
Julia is a vastly experienced attorney who has worked both locally and abroad. Julia was appointed as Secretary General in 2018 for the China Africa Joint Arbitration Center and works in the International Division of the Arbitration Foundation of Southern Africa. In addition to this and being qualified as an Admitted Attorney she is a sworn translator and interpreter of the High Court of South Africa.

Brett Landman
ATTORNEY
Brett is a senior consultant attorney at Burrows Attorneys and holds a BCom, LLB and LLM in Tax Law. Brett is highly experienced in banking and financial services regulation, governance and operations and his varied career has resulted in extensive experience in both private legal practice and as in-house legal counsel, as well as in executive management positions (including board level, as executive officer and key individual) in the banking and financial services industries (for both listed and unlisted financial institutions, as well as large global organisations).

Ryan Lane
ATTORNEY
Ryan is the Head of our Dispute Resolution practice. He has extensive litigious experience and has dealt with multi-million-rand civil disputes. Ryan specialises in several disciplines including general commercial litigation, commercial contracts, insolvency, insurance disputes, alternative dispute resolution and other areas.

Emma Tratschler

Emma obtained her LLB Degree through the University of Pretoria after having completed her BA Law degree. Emma has been involved in various High Court and Magistrate's Court litigation proceedings, including evictions, divorces, as well as general litigation matters.

Lara Gelderbloem
ATTORNEY | NOTARY PUBLIC
Lara is a Consultant Attorney and is qualified as both an Attorney and a Notary Public. She obtained her LLB at UJ and gained valuable experience in a wide range of legal areas: notarial services, commercial law, insolvency law, High-and-Magistrates-Court litigation, contract law and conveyancing. A seasoned Notary Public for all Ante-nuptial Contracts, notarial deeds, notarial certification / authentication / attestation, Apostille's etc.

Jed Behrmann
ATTORNEY
Jed has been involved in various High Court and Magistrate's Court litigation proceedings, including evictions, divorces, as well as general litigation matters. Jed also has experience with the drafting of wills, administration of deceased estates and labour disputes. Jed has a particular interest in Family Law and has a particular interest in resolving disputes in this area.

Phillip Demetriou
ATTORNEY
Phil is a Mining Law specialist and consultant with Burrows Attorneys while working fulltime in the legal department of a well-known mining company. Phil completed his CFA level 1 and has a keen interest in financial aspects of mining law making him invaluable the Burrows Attorneys team when due diligence is required. In addition to specializing in Mining Law, Phil has experience in Litigation and Property Law.

Jonathan Milner
Attorney
Jonathan obtained his LLB Degree through the University of Pretoria after having completed his BCom Degree. Jonathan specializes in mergers and acquisitions, corporate and commercial law, gambling and regulatory, and commercial litigation and heads up the Mergers and Acquisitions department at Burrows Attorneys

Douglas Ndlovu
FINANCIAL MANAGER
Douglas is our Financial Manager and has been with Burrows Attorneys from inception. He has extensive experience in bookkeeping and accounting and has successfully been a part of a number of small business start-up businesses.

Roberto Dos Santos
PARALEGAL
Robbie is in his final year of his LLB studies. He is a full-time paralegal gaining experience in the various fields of law that Burrows Attorneys has to offer before he begins his articles. Robbie has shown an interest in litigation and matters relating to tax and plans to pursue obtaining his LLM concurrently to completing articles at Burrows Attorneys
Levi
AUTISM SUPPORT TRAINEE
Levi is a trainee puppy with the South African Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind who will one day provide services to those who have visual, physical or developmental needs. Levi is currently in his second stage of training and will soon graduate providing someone with independence, mobility and companionship. Levi loves being with people and clients and is always willing to provide a helping hand carrying objects and giving emotional support to all the staff.
